Sleeping a maximum of three, this beautifully furnished, one/two bedroom Victorian cottage is furnished with original art, antiques and mod cons. Full kitchen, bathroom, lounge & courtyard garden. Private, safe & secure. High ceilings, heritage features, shops, eight restaurants & my city bus stop within 200m.
The Pumpkin Palace is our wonderful 110 year old Cape Town town house, which we escape to when we need a break from the hotel business in Tulbagh, Cape Winelands. The house is available to rent year round and makes for a very convenient and economic way of experiencing the city. The house features two bedrooms (Queen and a Single), lounge, kitchen, full bathroom (four rooms) with sash windows, wooden floors, high ceilings and stunning Victorian detailing and finishes. My husband and I are art and antique collectors and our Woodstock cottage is filled with some of our most beautiful things, many acquired from our travels around the world.
If we can not personally meet you in Woodstock, we will leave the keys at one of the restaurants in the road with your name and arrival date attached.
We expect guests to make themselves completely at home and to use everything in the well stocked house.
The kitchen cupboards are stocked with the basic essentials and the complicated luxuries required to whip up a snack or sophisticated meals. Guests are welcome to use any foods in the house (within reason), however the contents of the freezer are out of bounds.
We have extensive book, CD and DVD collections which guests are welcome to enjoy.
Included in your stay is our cleaner of 15 years. Delicia comes once a week to make over the house and can do your laundry as well. She is available more often on request, if required.
We are flexible on dates, although strict on cancellations, so should your plans change, we will gladly allow you to move your dates as long as there is availability.
Guests are welcome to phone me with questions. My neighbour also has keys and can help in emergencies.
3 minutes by car into the city or 10 minutes with public transport. House is only 100m from the My Citi Bus route.
We had a wonderful stay in Jayson’s cottage in Woodstock. Just 10 minutes by car distance to Waterfront and city centre. Perfect home base for having a great time in Cape Town.
We loved our stay at Jayson’s beautiful home. It is perfectly located for easy trips into the city by car or by bus and the local cafes and restaurants are superb!
Very happy with Jayson’s place – felt right at home.
We had a wonderful stay in the Woodstock house, and highly recommend it. Jayson responded promptly, was extremely helpful and his directions and advice were invaluable.
The house was comfortable, very secure and very easy to live in. It was beautifully decorated, filled with an eclectic collection of treasures and there was plenty of space. The shower was very good!
There were 5 restaurants within walking distance – we used the Frangipani several times. If we had wanted to use the kitchen seriously, it was very well equipped.
Parking was easy , we usually managed to park directly outside the house but always within two or three car lengths.
Transport if you don’t have a car is easy, convenient and safe.
My husband and I stayed at this petite vintage condo while we were visiting Cape Town in early January 2014. The condo is very old in a charming way. The home is furnished with complimentary furnishings and antiques which gave it a true feel. Indeed, the charming wood furniture and artifacts from a time gone by were quite lovely.
There isn’t a dishwasher nor a dryer in the home so if you plan to have those conveniences, check with the host to see if they have been added. I do not believe there is air conditioning either.
As for the host’s communication, it was nothing short of fantastic. Jayson responded within minutes of most of my texts and was very helpful at every step (like, when we had questions about how to turn the hot water heater on).
Jayson also left a bottle of wine in the fridge for us to enjoy which was really sweet.
Our favorite things about the property:
Proximity to transportation (MyCiti bus stop was right up the block)
Proximity to restaurants (a few cute restaurants within the same block or two. We liked District 9 for a quick breakfast and WiFi access)
The audio system (they have a great audio system in the living room where we docked our ipod to play music)
As for the neighborhood of Woodstock, it’s what I would call transitional. It’s got its charm but there are some areas that feel sketchy if not dirty especially as you move closer towards the waterfront. Table Mountain was in the background and provided some interesting weather experiences as well, rather like San Fransisco in the USA, including awesome cloud formations and sprinkles from the clouds that were rolling over it.
Washing Machine, Fridge and Freezer, Electric Oven, Gas Hob, Electric Geyser, Electric Blankets. No Air-con (electric fan only), Cloths drier (CT climate & retractable washing line only) or WIFI in house (only at the neighbouring restaurants)
We have thick old fashioned burglar bars in all windows and a very heavy front security gate. In my 15 years here, I have never had a burglary, touch wood. When visiting South Africa, always be aware of your surroundings and the people in your vicinity.
All parking is in the street, no there is no off street parking. We have very few problems with parked car outside so long as nothing is ever left in view in the car.
We are 4km from the city and 6km from the Waterfront.
