Tulbagh can be savoured through cuisine as diverse and interesting as the town’s history and inhabitants. A full slate of terrific restaurants and eateries are in Church Street, as well as various others on farms in the valley.
There is something for everybody in Tulbagh, and for every budget, from gourmet cuisine to classic Cape dishes and brilliant burgers and pizza.
Paddagang Restaurant is a famous South African restaurant and has a reputation going back to 1871. The beautiful Cape buildings are complemented by a mix of Cape dishes, simple cooking and chefs specials of the day. Much of the fresh produce is sourced locally from the Church Street Kitchen gardens as well as other farms in the area and the small menu ensures that everything is fresh and never frozen.
The wisteria-draped courtyard is the perfect setting for any summer occasion in Tulbagh. The restaurant is open from early to late five days a week from Tuesday breakfast to Sunday lunch. The wine tasting centre is open Monday morning 10am to Saturday 2pm.

Readers Restaurant is an institution in Tulbagh, and on balmy Summer nights there is nowhere else you would want to be than on Readers’ small veranda enjoying a glass of wine, watching the passers by strolling in the street.
Housed in the oldest building in Tulbagh’s Church Street, and offering good local and international cuisine with an African twist. Carol’s quirky Restaurant menu changes seasonally according to what is freshest and in season. Her ostrich with Amarula berry sauce followed by a medley of homemade ice creams is a must.

The Restaurant uses only the freshest ingredients sourced from local producers, as well as our seasonal permaculture garden. We strive to serve delicious, quality food in a relaxed country atmosphere with beautiful views all year round.
